"I want to save money by making my own reborn."

This is something that artists hear many times from newcomers to the world of dollmaking when the price is mentioned. It is often lamented that the dolls on eBay are SO expensive and how it will be much cheaper to make them.

Below follow some VERY conservative base costs for getting started in reborning. True, the paints and some items may be reused but will also need to be replenished.

Basic doll kit or doll $70
Mohair $20.00
Felting Needles $10
Artist's Brushes $35
Cosmetic Sponges $2
Sea Sponges $5
Paint Palette $5
Genesis Heat Set Paints 5 @ $6 each
Thinning Medium $10
Soft Body $15
Weighting Pellets $7
Polyfil $5
Doll Costume $25
Blanket $10
Pacifier $5
Magnets $5
Glues $15

Grand total $274

Please note that this does not include a good digital camera, web hosting, props, advertising, Reborn books/magazines, Reborn Classes, shipping, gasoline, or that most important thing--TIME. Those items would add about $900 more--again on a very conservative budget.

That finished reborn seems a whole lot more reasonable now--doesn't it??

The intent of this article is NOT to discourage anyone from learning the wonderful art of reborning.
Rather, it is to give a realistic view of the start up costs, and hopefully an appreciation for the pricing of finished dolls.
